Immerse yourself in the sweetness of spring by taking part in the world’s largest tulip festival! This dynamic annual celebration features brilliant tulip beds that fill visitors with wonder. The origins of this festival go back to a unique gesture of gratitude: the Dutch royal family took refuge in Ottawa during the Second World War, and Princess Margriet of the Netherlands was born here in 1943. Two years later, brave Canadian troops played a major role in the liberation of the Netherlands. As a sign of thanks, since 1945 the Dutch government has sent tulip bulbs to Canada every year, giving life to what has become the Canadian Tulip Festival.
