Big Red Cats
Cat skiing at Big Red Cats is all about the powder! With 19,300 acres and 8 mountains offering some of the best tree skiing and glades in the world, you can choose from separate trips for expert, advanced, and intermediate skiers and riders (even “Uber Expert” if you dare!)
Request a photographer, and enjoy your ski photos on the big screen over après beverages and snacks, and come later in the evening for an excellent dinner.
Safety is their main concern, but fun is what it’s all about! All guides all have CSGA, ACMG or international equivalent guide qualifications and CAA professional avalanche training, and our year-round mechanic makes sure that we always have 6 powder cats ready to go, so that there is always a backup, and no mechanical down days.
Note: If you are a part of a multi-day full-cat group booking, you only need to do the safety briefing on the first day, and can arrange for the quick program on subsequent days.
What’s the vertical? How many runs?
The vertical depends on which group you’re in. The runs are generally between 1,200-1,800 feet each, and average around 1,400 feet (the top elevation is about 2200 m, and the bottom is about 1650 m, but most runs are less than that). An expert group typically gets 10-13 runs in (15,000ft or more), an advanced group typically 7-11 (10,000 or more), and an intermediate group 6-9 (8,000 or more). So that’s a pretty large range. If it has been a long time since the last snowfall, we will have to travel further between runs to find fresh tracks, and you may get fewer runs in. If you come in March, the days are longer than in December, which will also affect the number of runs. Each run is about 1,200 feet, on average.
